 Vena ca, ca ta dire na cosa… 

My mum used to say this to me  when she wanted to get my attention and tell me something.. not always positive…  

This blog records the words and sayings in the Sicilian language invoking the memories of growing up as a first generation Australian of Sicilian parents and is a platform to  explore my Sicilian heritage, language, place and food. 

For those of you that know Italian… you would not recognise most of the words in the title, it translates to

Vieni qua, che ti devo dire una cosa. 

Contrary to popular belief, Sicilian is not a dialect, it is a language older than Italian.  It is an amalgam of the languages of the indigenous people of Sicily, its various invaders and adjacent traders. If you would like like to know more, read this Article
